Bret Lawless was thought to be a suspect from early on, but he had an alibi (Lanette Butts) and passed a lie detector test. More than one person interviewed said that there was a "dispute" between Lawless and Gerri Faye over some land he wanted the family to sell. Gerri Faye was reportedly the lone holdout. Bret was named by Atlanta Police as a possible suspect in Hailey's probable cause hearing, and Kevin's mother called him the killer on the Maury Povich Show. More than one person interviewed following the murders, said that Gerri Faye and her mother had argued over Lanette's relationship with Lawless. Gerri Faye told her to choose between Bret or her and her grandchildren. An incident was also recounted after an argument between Bret and Gerri Faye when Bret threatened to "get her back in his own way." Lanette denied there was any dispute over land. THIRD SUSPECT - ACCORDING TO A RELIABLE SOURCE A THIRD PERSON WAS TESTED AGAINST THE DNA FOUND UNDER GERRI FAYE'S FINGERNAILS AND THERE WAS NO MATCH. THIS WAS A DRUG DEALER ALREADY IN JAIL

Profile of another case: ... there was a case in Anchorage Alaska or Fairbanks where a young woman and her two daughters were murdered. The case is so simular to the Butts it's uncanny - The children were about the same age, - same type of evidence - a few prints and pubic hairs with crab eggs! In that case it was the nephew of the husband. He was convicted and received life imprisonment. (NEED NAME SO WE CAN FIND THAT CASE IN NEWS REPORTS) What's important about that case is the FBI came up with a psychological profile on the murderer and that led to the guy being a suspect. The PROFILE: Young white male Knows the family Has been in petty trouble before Has had a recent tragedy in his life (death in family or divorce) Also said that the killings were committed by a disorganized killer - Organized killer is someone like Ted Bundy - intelligent has transportation and doesn't pick his victims from his own neighborhood. Disorganized Killer is not too intelligent, likely with a menial job or non job, likely didn't have a car, and he kills in his own neighborhood - gets mad and kills.
